AWAKE CHILDREN'S CHORAL FESTIVAL

Save the Date! February 21st, 2026

Our annual AWAKE Children's Choral Festival will take place on Saturday, February 21st, 2026 at Lakeland University in Plymouth, WI.

Registration will be open starting Monday, August 30th and closing October 25th.

2026 CLINICIAN BIOGRAPHY- Karrie Been

​

Karrie Been is a seasoned music educator with over 35 years of experience in choral and general music instruction. A graduate of Bonduel High School, she holds a Master of Music Education with a Kodály emphasis from Silver Lake College and a B.S. in Music Education from Carroll University. 

Karrie recently retired from teaching general music and choir to grades 5 and 6 in the Kimberly Area School District. Throughout her career, she has taught music to students of every level, from infants through high school, and including classroom music to general education majors at Carroll. 

She has mentored student teachers, taught at the Lawrence Community School Girl Choir program, and founded the Association of Wisconsin Area Kodály Educators Choral Festival. Karrie has been a member of AWAKE, WCDA, WMEA, and NAfME, and has led multiple regional choral festivals. She is the alto section leader with the newVoices community choir in Appleton, WI. Karrie has previously served the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association board as Refresh Chairperson, All State Middle Level and Children’s Choir Coordinator, and has assisted at countless WCDA and AWAKE State Choir Festivals.  She was recently elected to the position of President-Elect of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association.
